Machines of Loving Grace

In San Francisco in the 1980's, long before TNSC was even a thought (and many of you were too young to enter a tavern, anyway) there was an amazing industrial / mechanical / kinetic / ear-splitting collective of artists known as Survival Research Laboratories - or S.R.L., for short.

Led by their fearless (and mangled) leader, Mark Pauline, factions of them are still around, and other parts of them went on to form Burning Man.  But under the freeways in SOMA 30 years ago, S.R.L. was a BFD.

Honorary TNSC founding member, Mathias Genser, curates this moving pictures for your viewing pleasure:

Exhibit A  (note Additional Film Crew credit @ 6:40 - TNSC REPRESENT!!)

Exhibit B - a beautiful symphony of machinery and pianos

Exhibit C - SF MOMA Groundbreaking (literally).  The Fire Marshall part is pretty fun.

Exhibit D - A beautiful "mecho-drama" - A Bitter Message of Hopeless Grief
(check additional TNSC member credit @ 12:20)

Young girls and gin may be the cure,
I'm talking just as good as you stay pure,
Young girls and gin may be the cure."
